Uh, ok?
Frozen peas are probably the strangest thing G loves to eat. He just asked for them. For breakfast. He ate like half a cup. Of frozen peas. For breakfast. And he was happy about it. Did I mention they were frozen? And eaten for breakfast? I don't get it.
P.S. I apologize for the crappy picture. He was trying to wrestle the camera from me.

5' 18"
It's been a week since we buried "Gramps" Hansen. I don't really know why it has taken me so long to write about it. I think I just don't know what to say, except I am so proud of my family. They cared for him and loved him and honored him and allowed him to die with dignity. When I saw all of them and realized the work they had done and how they have struggled over the past few years to cope with his illness, I was so overwhelmed with love and pride, and so grateful that they are in my life. You can read about the big man, all 5' 18" of him, here.

My dad will be so proud
I just warmed up some lentil soup for lunch. G took one bite, started crying and spit out. There has been plenty of food he won't take more than one bite of, but to spit it out? Unbelievable. Oh well, more for me.
I feel so bad I'm letting him eat a cupcake and string cheese for lunch. Don't you wish I was your mom?

I love me a good haircut
Lonely
My boys are out of town for a few days. I am bored to tears and and sad and lonely to tears too. I have had a few funny phone conversations with G - he keeps telling me "gamma candy" because apparently he thinks Grandma Sheryl's pumpkin bread is candy. Yesterday he took a golf cart ride and kept saying "little car! i ride a little car!" like it was the coolest thing ever.
I realize that it is pathetic as hell, but I miss those two like I would miss my arms or something. I know it's only five days, but it is a long five days without 2/3 of yourself.
If anyone wants to take pity on me and invite me for dinner, feel free to do so.

Muffins are just ugly cupcakes
And they can be healthy too! These uglies were made with whole wheat flour and half of a ginormous zucchini from my mom's garden. Also chocolate chips, because that is just how we roll.
3 c. grated zucchini (about 1 large)
1 stick (8 Tbsp.) unsalted butter, melted
2/3 c. sugar
2 eggs
2 tsp. vanilla
2 tsp. baking soda
1½ c. all-purpose flour
1½ c. whole wheat flour
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1 c. mini chocolate chips
Mix the wet ingredients (including zucchini) in one bowl, and the dry ingredients (excluding chocolate chips) in another. Stir the wet into the dry until just blended and then fold in the chocolate chips. Bake at 350 for about 12 minutes for mini-muffins, 22-25 minutes for regular muffins. Eat four at breakfast and feel no guilt.
